\What does science say about performance-based pay?

Does performance-based pay increase motivation and job performance?
Does the use of performance-based pay reduce intrinsic motivation and encourage selfish behavior?

In this workshop, the controversies surrounding performance-based pay will be discussed and a number of practical implications for pay system design will be outlined.
The debate will be resolved with the explanation of several science-based “stylized facts” about incentive pay; these facts can be used to improve employee reactions to performance-based pay and, ultimately, organization effectiveness.
